Developing low-input cultivars adapted to Latin America is what Jim Nienhuis discusses in this five-minute lightning talk. Nienhuis, of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is the primary investigator of this project with funding from the Horticulture Innovation Lab.

Nienhuis discusses the evolution of the project, from developing virus-resistant tomato cultivars, to training women's groups on grafting tomato seedlings for sale. Trials proved that grafted tomato plants were significantly less susceptible to disease. Women's groups now market the grafted tomato plants.
