In this 90-second video, Karla Huerta, a Ph.D. student at UC Davis, shares about her trip to Uganda as a Trellis Fund fellow. During her time working in Uganda, Karla trained women farmers on fruit tree growing practices with mango trees and citrus trees in particular. 

In the video, Karla introduces the project, which is led by URICT-Uganda, and shares what she has learned from the discussions. She then shows the trainees doing hands-on work in the demonstration plot. Finally, she talks about the certificate ceremony at the end of the training.

The Trellis Fund connects organizations in developing countries with U.S. graduate students from Horticulture Innovation Lab partner institutions who have agricultural expertise, generating benefits for both the students and the in-country institutions. Together, they collaborate on short-term projects to address horticultural challenges faced by local farmers.
