In this 90-second video, Debora Rivera with the Horticulture Innovation Lab showcases the Guatemala-based project focused on promoting drip irrigation and conservation agriculture, which is also clled MásRiego. The project is working to increase the use of drip irrigation and conservation agriculture in smallholder vegetable production systems in Guatemala.
The video shares that the project team evolved its implementation strategy to meet farmers’ diverse needs and plot sizes by creating a profile for each municipality and increasing their intervention area. They also work with lead farmers to co-create conservation agricultural practices that adapt to local contexts.
“There is no one-size-fits-all model in implementing agricultural projects. The reality we work in involves being flexible, attentive, and adaptive in order to help the most vulnerable groups of people gain competitiveness in growing fruits and vegetables.” –Debora Rivera
